Suspect commits suicide in Reno jail

RENO -- A convicted sex offender committed suicide at the Washoe County Jail.

Ivan Lynn Bennett, 64, of Fernley was found dead in his cell Sunday night.

Bennett was booked into the jail Aug. 27 on new federal charges accusing him of possessing child pornography.

Records show he was convicted in Nevada in 2003 of possession of child pornography and in 1992 of annoyance or molestation of a child.

According to his obituary, Bennett served 22 years in the U.S. Army, and was a married father of three.
