Teacher faces 64 child porn charges

A Boulder City middle school teacher and youth soccer coach faces 64 counts of possessing child pornography after authorities found photos and videos at his home and on an electronic storage device that also contained his classroom materials.

Charles Richard "Rick" Rogers, a Garrett Middle School teacher, was arrested Thursday afternoon and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. The 46-year-old also coached youth soccer teams with the Boulder City Parks and Recreation Department and spent more than two decades coaching the BC United club team before retiring last year.

The Boulder City police investigation began Wednesday after Henderson police received an anonymous envelope with three electronic storage devices and a note saying they came from Rogers' home, according to the arrest report.

On one thumb drive, investigators found several photos and 10 pornographic videos, which included scenes of men with boys about 7 to 10 years old, the report said. The same drive contained lesson plans and other school materials with Rogers' name on them and some family snapshots including Rogers, according to the report.

Police searched Rogers' home and found a photo album with more than 50 pictures of child pornography in a drawer under his bed, the report said. Rogers admitted to having the photos at his house, the report said.

Rogers has worked for the Clark County School District since 1992. A district spokesman would not comment specifically on this case but said teachers facing such accusations are put on paid leave pending an investigation.

Boulder City Police Chief Thomas Finn said Rogers did not appear to be in any of the photos or videos viewed by detectives so far, but Henderson police next week will review seized computers, video tapes and other media as part of the investigation.
