Teen in extremely critical condition in northeast shooting

A 14-year-old teenager was shot in the chest four times during an altercation with five to 10 young males in the 5800 block of Carey Avenue on Saturday afternoon, Las Vegas police said.

Police said the shooter stepped out of the car and fired his weapon at the victim, who collapsed in a nearby dirt lot in Lake Mead Trailer Estates, near the intersection of Carey Avenue and Toiyabe Street. The victim was transported to University Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Police said he is in extremely critical condition with potentially life-threatening injuries. The shooting remains under investigation, with no other details available Saturday.
