Teen indicted in bus stop shooting

A Clark County grand jury this week indicted an 18-year-old man on attempted murder and other charges for the bus stop shooting that wounded six people, including five teens, last year.

Nicco Tatum is charged with seven counts of attempted murder, six counts of battery with a deadly weapon and one count of conspiracy to commit murder for the Dec. 11 shooting at Walnut and Alexander roads, according to the indictment issued Wednesday. The victims' ages ranged from 14 to 21.

Tatum's court-appointed attorney, Rochelle Nguyen, said it was too early to say how Tatum will plead when he is arraigned next week. Tatum remains in the county jail.

He is also facing separate attempted murder charges in the wounding of 40-year-old Tracy Beavers on Dec. 5. Tatum is accused of shooting her in the stomach. Beavers had confronted him about hitting her dog at her home a few blocks south of the bus stop where the shooting took place, according to police.

Victoria Villegas, the prosecutor handling the bus stop case, wouldn't say whether authorities have already convened or will convene a grand jury in the Beavers case.

A grand jury last week indicted two other teens and a woman on charges related to the bus stop shooting. Dresden Michael Williams, 18, and Franklin Jackson, 17, were charged with attempted murder, battery and conspiracy.

The grand jury also indicted 20-year-old Erica Adams on drug charges and charged her with being an accessory to the crime. She is alleged to have helped Williams and Jackson avoid arrest.

Attorneys for the three said they are not guilty.

Authorities accuse Williams and Jackson of plotting with Tatum to ambush Mojave High School student David Macias. Tatum had gotten into an altercation with Macias the day before the shooting.

Witnesses and police accused Tatum of being one of the gunmen, according to a police report. Police found 9 mm and .45-caliber shell casings at the scene.

Other witnesses told police, however, that Williams and Jackson had fired the shots. Tatum told police the same thing Dec. 14 after they arrested him at a bus station in Denver, according to a Las Vegas police report.
