Thompson to attend valley fundraiser

Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson is scheduled to be in Las Vegas today to attend a private fundraiser that is not open to the nonpaying public or to the media.

According to an invitation to the event, Thompson, the actor and former Tennessee senator, will appear at 6 p.m. at the home of Susan and Madison Graves in the posh Southern Highlands development.

For $2,300, the maximum contribution under federal law, Thompson will pose for a photograph. Mere attendance at the reception costs $1,000.

Thompson is to arrive in Las Vegas after a similar event in Phoenix, according to his campaign schedule. After the Phoenix event, the candidate is slated to hold a news conference, but he doesn't plan to talk to the media while in Nevada.

Today's visit will be Thompson's second trip to Nevada since he announced his candidacy in September. His supporters in the state include state Sen. Bob Beers, R-Las Vegas.
