Throwback to the family fun era
In the rush to ring in the new year and foretell certain economic gloom and doom awaiting Las Vegas in 2009, we completely missed a milestone at an attraction that's a throwback to happier times.
On Jan. 1, the Adventuredome at Circus Circus welcomed its 50 millionth guest.
That's right, an attraction at the forefront of the ill-fated family values era on the Las Vegas Strip has hosted more guests than the combined population of California, Arizona and Nevada.
The good folks at MGM Mirage were kind enough to provide a brief history of the enduring entertainment venue.
It opened August 23, 1993, as Grand Slam Canyon with four major attractions.
The "Xtreme Zone" rock climbing and trampoline attraction opened March 20, 1998.
The name changed to Adventuredome on May 1, 1998.
The 20 millionth visitor showed up on Oct. 20, 2001.
The single-day attendance record was 34,460 on Nov. 29, 2002.
