Tickets on sale for children’s entertainment

The city of Las Vegas will present concerts and theater especially for children of all ages July 12 through Aug. 1 at the Charleston Heights Arts Center and at the downtown Historic Fifth Street School. Tickets, which are on sale now, are $3 for each of the four events. Discounted tickets are available for groups of 20 or more.

The Paul Mesner Puppets company will perform the "True Story of the 3 Little Pigs by A. Wolf" at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. July 12 at the Historic Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth St. The company has a reputation of offering elaborate productions with witty scripts, based on classic fairy tales and contemporary children's literature.

In 2008, this production received the highest honor in U.S. puppetry, the Union Internationale de la Marionette-USA Citation for Excellence in Puppetry, an award created by Jim Henson. Meredith LeVande brings her Monkey Monkey Band to the Charleston Heights Arts Center Theatre on July 18 for performances at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The theater is at 800 S. Brush St. Since 2011, when public television stations began airing Monkey Monkey music videos, children from New York to Los Angeles have grown to love LeVande and her high-energy songs that educate and entertain. Alex & The Kaleidoscope Band will bring its multicultural, award-winning music to the Historic Fifth Street School on July 26 for 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. performances. Audiences will enjoy the lively and interactive songs about relationships, emotions, the natural world and just plain fun making music. Everyone sings, claps and dances with the band, which includes guitar, bass, drums and a jazz vocalist who leads the children in movement and dance. The Magik Theatre of San Antonio, Texas, will present "The Jungle Book" at the Charleston Heights Arts Center Theatre on Aug. 1, in performances at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Adapted from Rudyard Kipling's source stories by David Morgan, with music by Jaime Ramirez, the familiar story of jungle boy Mowgli, and his friends, panther Bagheera and great bear Baloo, will come to life on the stage.
