Time for a double take on the double standard when it comes to discussing racial issues
We got a letter today from a gentleman challenging the conclusions in a column by Walter E. Williams.
The headline on the column was: “Does this mean we can finally ‘get beyond race’?”
Williams’ theme for the column might be summed up in this quote, “I hope the fact that the nation elected a black president might turn our attention away from the false notion that discrimination explains the problems of a large segment of the black community to the real problems that have absolutely nothing to do with discrimination.”
But the letter writer disagreed, saying, “I say his negative statistics have everything to do with race and the fact that he feels Barack Obama's election should end black protest means he still does not get it.”
Then the writer explains to Mr. Williams, “Since it is impossible for you to walk in the shoes of a black man, you would not understand what that means.”
