TIME TO GO
March 1, 2009 - 1:46 pm
Drivers listened to grand marshal Carroll Shelby and they fired their engines at around 1:30.
The Shelby 427 is an extended race. For the first time in the 12-year history of the Las Vegas race the distance is 427 miles instead of 400 and 285 laps instead of 267.
The halfway point that will make it official will be 143 laps. But that only matters if it rains and that ain’t going to rain today to mark the first of this year’s two races when it didn’t. ...
Keep an eye on the Toyotas. Their engine problems on Friday occurred in the first 75 laps of practice. ...
And the bumps. The track was reconfigured two years ago and paved in the heat of summer. Drivers talk about bumps; some drive over them some have try to avoid them. They could provide added excitement. ...
Time to go. Must take pre-race rest room break.
Let’s have fun and be safe.
Be back soon.
