Train hits, kills man in Kingman

KINGMAN, Ariz. - A Peach Springs resident committed suicide by stepping in front of an oncoming train early Wednesday, according to police.

Kingman police Capt. Rusty Cooper said Derrick Robert Jones, 30, was killed instantly when struck by the westbound train about 12:05 a.m.

Witnesses aboard the train that was traveling about 55 mph told investigators that Jones deliberately placed himself in its path near the intersection of Eastern and Pacific avenues, he said.

"There was no doubt he did so on purpose," Cooper said.

There were indications that Jones has been despondent, he said.
