Truck runs over worker’s legs in work zone on Interstate 80

A truck ran over a worker's legs in a work zone on Interstate 80 in the Elko area.

The accident happened Monday morning while 50-year-old Billi Jo Smith was moving a traffic cone. The Nevada Highway Patrol said Smith appeared to fall under a truck trailer that was involved in the road work.

The Elko Daily Free Press reported the truck was driving slowly, just 5 mph. Smith was flown to University of Utah Hospital for surgery on her ankles.

The Highway Patrol said the truck driver doesn't appear to be at fault.
