TV station pulls GOP ad over false claims about Marshall

A Reno TV station has pulled a Republican ad against Democratic congressional candidate Kate Marshall over a bogus claim.

KTVN-TV station manager Lawson Fox said Friday an internal review determined the ad purchased by the National Republican Congressional Committee was unsubstantiated.

Marshall faces Republican Mark Amodei in a special election for the vacant 2nd Congressional District seat.

The ad running across Nevada claims Marshall backed a $500 million tax increase. The Republican committee told the station Marshall took that position as state treasurer during a 2010 meeting.

Fox said there was no evidence Marshall advocated such a tax. He also said he could not recall pulling another political ad because of unproved statements in his 20 years at the station.
