Two Arizona drowning victims ID’d

KINGMAN, Ariz. -- Authorities have identified the two men who drowned in floodwaters Tuesday night in the northwest Arizona community of Golden Valley as Rivera Portillo, 67, of Golden Valley, and his nephew David R. Portillo, 45, of San Jose, Calif.

Sheriff Tom Sheahan said the men tried to drive through a running wash at a rural intersection four miles north of state Route 68 when their 1999 Ford pickup was swept away.

The sheriff said the vehicle was demolished as it was carried some 200 yards downstream.

The body of the elder Portillo was found about one mile from the vehicle on Tuesday night.

His nephew's body was located on Wednesday morning another 300 yards downstream.
