Two arrested in attempted carjacking, killing

Las Vegas police have arrested two men they said shot and killed a man in an attempted carjacking Tuesday morning.

Officers arrested 20-year-old Julio Renteria, of Henderson, and 22-year-old Adrian McClintock, of Las Vegas, based on witness descriptions.

Las Vegas police officers responded to Sportsman Royal Manor Apartments in the 5600 block of South Boulder Highway after a caller said a man had been shot inside a vehicle that had crashed into a wall.

Police and medical personnel found Dylan Salazar dead in the vehicle’s driver seat, according to an arrest report. Salazar, whose age was not included in the report, had an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Metro said its initial investigation found that man was getting into his truck when he was approached by two other men who tried to steal his vehicle, then shot him and took off.

Renteria was found hiding in the storage shed of a nearby home, police said. He was identified as the shooter by the apartment complex’s security guard. Police found McClintock between two apartment buildings.

McClintock and Renteria are being held at the Clark County Detention Center. McClintock faces charges of first degree murder with a deadly weapon and probation violation. Renteria faces a charge of murder with a deadly weapon.

This is Metro’s 42nd homicide investigation of 2014.
