Two dead after two-hour standoff in North Las Vegas

A man and a woman were killed this morning in what North Las Vegas police suspect might have been a murder-suicide in an apartment at 370 Casa Norte Drive, near Commerce Street and Lone Mountain Road.

Police Sgt. Tim Bedwell said officers were called to the apartment about 5:30 a.m. by another the woman who said the man had pointed a gun at her friend's head.

Officers made contact with the man, who retreated inside the apartment and fired shots at police, Bedwell said.

A subsequent standoff lasted about two hours. Then SWAT officers entered the apartment and found the two dead from gunshot wounds.

Bedwell said officers did not return fire.

Police did not release the identities of the two dead people.
