Two donors provide new life to day school
Thanks to two donors, All Saints Day School has a good chance of staying open for the rest of the school year.
The school, which has offered day care, preschool and kindergarten classes for 34 years, had been scheduled to close Oct. 19 because of budgetary shortfalls.
Earlier this week, the vestry of All Saints Episcopal Church, which operates the school, decided to postpone the closing until Dec. 21.
Now, Day School Director Dyan McCarthy said, two donors have agreed to help cover any financial deficit at the school for the remainder of the current school year.
The donors wish to remain anonymous, McCarthy said, but both are former members of All Saints Church.
Details are being firmed up for presentation to the church vestry, McCarthy said. But if the proposal is accepted, the school will be able to remain open at least through May 30, she said.
The next step then would be to look for longer-term financing to keep the school at 4201 W. Washington Ave. in operation.
As for next year, "we just don't know. We can't say," McCarthy said.
"Our plan and our hope is that we will be open."
