Two men arrested in slaying of tire shop employee

Las Vegas police have arrested two suspects in the slaying of a northeast valley tire shop employee in January.

Ulises Gomez, 26, and Luis Armando Ramirez, 36, both face charges of murder, robbery and kidnapping in the Jan. 6 slaying at the Llantera Del Norte at 4380 N. Lamb Boulevard, at Craig Road.

Pedro Quijay-Cacain, 39, was killed by a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

According to Ramirez's arrest report, both men told police that they were pumping gasoline across the street in the early morning when they decided to rob the shop. Gomez suggested they steal the rims inside and sell them for money to gamble, according to the report.

They picked up a third man and went to the shop about 6 a.m., they said.

The two suspects gave different stories about who was involved in the robbery and murder, the arrest report states.

Gomez told detectives that Ramirez and the third man went to rob the store while he sat in the getaway vehicle. Ramirez said that he and Gomez went inside while the third man sat in the getaway vehicle.

Ramirez said they went inside to rob the two employees, according to the report. One of the employees screamed, and Ramirez tied the man up with tape.

Gomez confronted the other employee, Quijay-Cacain, according to the report. The employee who screamed saw Quijay-Cacain beaten repeatedly with the butt of a pistol, the report states. The employee then heard a gunshot and saw Quijay-Cacain on the floor.

Gomez and Ramirez fled the scene in a black Chevrolet Suburban. Detectives interviewed Gomez inside the Los Angeles County jail. When Ramirez spoke to detectives he was awaiting deportation to Mexico at the North Las Vegas Detention Center.

Both men are now being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
