Two tribal leaders critical of Skywalk developer ousted
PEACH SPRINGS, Ariz. — Two members of the Hualapai Tribal Council who have been critical of the Grand Canyon Skywalk developer have been ousted in a recall election, according to a report from Peach Springs, Ariz.
The vacancies created by the recall of Candida Hunter and Charlie Vaughn this week will be filled through a special election. Their terms had been set to expire in June 2014.
The tribe and Las Vegas businessman David Jin have wrangled over a revenue-sharing and management agreement for the Skywalk. The dispute has led to lawsuits and the tribe cutting Jin out of the contract.
In a letter to the community, Vaughn wrote that the recall was an effort to remove objectivity from the council.
Tribal spokesman Dave Cieslak says the results must be certified and a notice posted for a special election before it’s held.be certified and a notice posted for a special election before it’s held.
