U-Haul building damaged in blaze

Portions of a west valley U-Haul building burned Wednesday evening, an official with the Las Vegas Fire Department said.

Tim Szymanski, a department spokesman, said no one was injured in the blaze, which firefighters battled for about 30 minutes before getting it under control.

Firefighters were called to a U-Haul location at 1900 S. Decatur Blvd., near Oakey Boulevard, about 8 p.m. The fire had begun in a small garage, where blankets were stacked up in a pile, Szymanski said.

The garage received the most damage, but portions of the administrative offices along with the display room also were damaged, he said.

Szymanski said the cause of the fire was undetermined, but careless smoking might have sparked the blaze.

There was no estimate of the financial damage to the building Wednesday evening.
