Ultralight crash victim was English professor

The pilot who died when his ultralight plane crashed into a dry lake bed southeast of Las Vegas was an associate English professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, authorities said.

Jeffrey Michael Stitt, 57, was the only person aboard when the craft went down Thursday near Boulder City.

Stitt, of Henderson, was a teacher who specialized in folklore. He had been a Senior Fulbright scholar in Bulgaria.

In 2006, he was awarded UNLV's College of Liberal Arts Schmeidal Award.

Stitt is survived by his wife, Emire Stitt, and a son, Vesko Dinev.
