UNLV Educational Outreach helps locals dream big

If you dream of starting a new career or learning something new, don't let your dreams take the summer off. The Division of Educational Outreach at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas has a number of programs, courses and training opportunities to help achieve that dream.

continuing education

Continuing Education aims to enrich the personal life of its students while giving their professional careers a boost. Whether local residents are looking to brush up on a new language or companies want a custom-designed curriculum for their employees, Continuing Education's team of experienced and results-driven programmers can help.

Fun classes range from arts and crafts to yoga. New courses include cabinetry for the home, social media, beginning crochet and wine appreciation. In addition, exploring trips visit Disneyland or provide opportunities to learn birding.

For those who want to use the summer to gain new skills, Continuing Education's courses, programs and certificates will provide quality instruction to enhance basic skills or advance careers. While the most popular programs are paralegal, Internet design, sommelier and human resources, Continuing Education also has initiated new programs to prepare students for employment in the growing careers of medical assistant, facility management and green initiatives.

senior programs

UNLV Senior Programs is based on the whole person wellness model and presents a variety of options for seniors to stay active and involved. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNLV offers 22 study groups this summer for the semiretired and retired who want to experience the joy of learning without tests or grades. Participants can take as many classes as they want at four locations for $40.

The Senior Wellness program provides courses to guide seniors in their quest to nourish mind, body and soul. Courses include senior aquatics and tai chi.

The Division of Educational Outreach has developed relevant and comprehensive courses in a flexible learning environment. The division is located at the UNLV Paradise Campus, 851 E. Tropicana Ave. at Swenson Street. Its information desk is open 8 a.m.--9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.--5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
