UNLV-SDSU: Aztecs put a bruising on Rebels, 48-14, in San Diego

SAN DIEGO — Ryan Lindley threw for 344 yards and four touchdowns to lead San Diego State to a 48-14 win over UNLV tonight.

The Aztecs (8-4, 5-3 Mountain West) racked up 592 total yards in the victory, including 152 yards on 19 carries by Ronnie Hillman.

San Diego State scored 17 unanswered points in the third quarter to extend its lead to 48-7 before a time-consuming drive that killed nearly 12 minutes of clock in the fourth quarter.

The Rebels (2-10, 2-6) scored the only points of the final period on a 64-yard fumble return by former quarterback Mike Clausen.

Omar Clayton was 13 of 28 for 167 yards and a touchdown for UNLV and Phillip Payne caught five passes for 91 yards.

Kyle Watkins scored the only offensive touchdown for the Rebels on a 27-yard pass from Clayton on the last play of the first quarter.

DeMarco Sampson caught six passes for 128 yards and two scores for the Aztecs and Brandon Sullivan had a rushing and receiving touchdown.

UNLV will finish the season on the road at Hawaii next Saturday.

Ryan Lindley threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns in the first half to help San Diego State stake a 31-7 lead over UNLV at halftime at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

The Aztecs have already racked up 400 yards of total offense through two quarters.

DeMarco Sampson has caught four passes for 176 yards and two scores, while Brandon Sullivan has already scored on a run and a catch.

Omar Clayton has completed just 8 of 19 passes for 112 yards, but he did throw a 27-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Watkins on the final play of the first quarter.
