UNLV student found dead in dorm

A University of Nevada, Las Vegas student was found dead in an on-campus dormitory Monday afternoon.

The death does not appear suspicious, but university police are investigating, spokesman Tony Allen said.

The male student, whose name was not released, was found about 2 p.m. in UNLV's Tonopah Hall, a six-story building on the southeast corner of the campus, on Maryland Parkway near Harmon Avenue.

Ky Plaskon, news director for UNLV-TV, said sources close to the dorm's residence hall coordinators told the station that the student is believed to have died from an accidental drug overdose.

The student's parents, concerned after not hearing from their son over the weekend, notified university officials on Monday, Plaskon said. He said officials found the student in the dorm Monday afternoon.
