Utah man gets 12-year term in fatal DUI crash
ELKO - A 24-year-old Utah man convicted of drunken driving in a 2010 crash that killed his brother on U.S. Highway 93 in Nevada was sentenced Monday to the maximum 12 years in prison.
Kevin Naranjo of Ibapah had a .134 percent blood-alcohol level and marijuana in his system when his older brother, Alex, was killed in the crash 20 miles south of West Wendover.
His father is Ed Naranjo, chairman of the 500-member Confederated Tribes of the Goshute. He appealed to District Judge Nancy Porter for leniency, saying his son had suffered enough.
The Elko Daily Free Press reported that prosecutors didn't object to a prison term of five years but that Porter cited a second DUI arrest since the crash in justifying the maximum.
