Vehicle hits teen outside Clark High School

A man was arrested after police say he hit a girl with his minivan outside of a Las Vegas high school on Wednesday afternoon.

The 16-year-old was on the sidewalk outside Clark High School, near Pennwood Avenue and Arville Street, around 2:30 p.m. when a 2002 Pontiac Montana driven by 61-year-old Ronald Martin hopped the curb and hit her from behind, Las Vegas police said.

Martin fled the scene in the Pontiac. Someone on a moped witnessed the hit and run and followed Martin long enough to take a cellphone photo of his license plate.

Officers went to the address connected with the license plate and arrested Martin, who failed field sobriety tests and was arrested on charges of DUI with substantial bodily harm and felony hit and run, police said.

The girl had a broken leg and was taken to University Medical Center.
