Wal-Mart offers immunizations

Children who lack the required immunizations to enroll in school can obtain them for free at five local Wal-Marts starting today.

Wal-Mart's 'Shot at Good Health' campaign will kick off today at 4505 W. Charleston Blvd. Special events will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and include free nutrition workshops, vision screenings and a fashion show. Vaccines will be available to children of all ages.

The shot campaign is a response to recent figures released by The United Health Foundation that identified Nevada as the state least likely to have young children with up-to-date immunizations.

Nevada lawmakers recently passed a bill calling for the creation of a statewide immunization registry.

The campaign also will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on: Monday, at 201 N. Nellis Blvd.; Tuesday, at 3615 S. Rainbow Blvd.; Wednesday, at 300 E. Lake Mead in Henderson; and Thursday, at 1807 W. Craig Road in North Las Vegas.

Parents are asked to bring their children's immunization records to the events.
