Washoe County bans open burning for summer
RENO - Open burning has been banned in Washoe County for the entire summer season in response to extremely dry conditions that are contributing to a rising threat of wildfires across much of Nevada.
Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District officials said the burning ban is necessary because of record levels of dryness and extreme fire conditions in and around the Reno-Sparks area.
Fire Chief Charles Moore urged residents to use caution with anything that could generate a spark, including power tools and barbecue grills.
Moore said even parking a car on vegetation can start a fire by way of a very hot catalytic converter.
