Washoe County crime lab receives federal grant
RENO -- The Washoe County sheriff's office has received a $342,000 federal grant to reduce the backlog of DNA samples awaiting analysis.
The money will be used to fund extra part-time staff and equipment.
Authorities said evidence gathered in active criminal investigations is done in-house at the crime lab. Samples from convicts under the supervision of the Nevada Department of Corrections are sent out for analysis and then entered into a national database by county forensic staff
