Washoe officials look at impact fee hike

RENO -- Washoe County commissioners have proposed raising development impact fees to help fund road construction and maintenance.

But the proposed increase discussed Tuesday is far less then the amount recommended by Regional Transportation Commission staff.

Commissioners noted a downturn in the housing market and construction industry in favoring the lesser increase.

If enacted, impact fees on a single-family home would increase to $3,186 from $1,935 in Reno and to $2,124 outside the city limits.

RTC staff had recommended a fee of $7,031.

Reno and Sparks city councils are expected to consider the fee ordinance soon. If approved by the local governments, it would take effect in December, officials said.
