Water main break disrupts Valley View traffic

A large water main break was hampering traffic on Valley View Boulevard south of Spring Mountain Road on Wednesday and was expected to be a problem for several days.

By about 5 p.m., traffic on Valley View was reduced to one northbound lane between Spring Mountain and Twain Avenue as crews worked to repair the break.

Southern Nevada Water Authority spokeswoman Kristen Howey said a contractor working in the area hit an 84-inch transmission lateral used to move water to various storage tanks and reservoirs around the valley.

No commercial or residential water service was interrupted as a result of the break, Howey said.

Valley View may need to be closed entirely south of Spring Mountain as crews excavate around the broken pipe. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
