Weekly to use campaign funds to pay for free mammograms

Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly will sponsor free mammograms today and Wednesday for women who do not have health insurance, his office announced on Monday.

The screenings will take place from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both days at the Dr. William U. Pearson Community Center, 1625 W. Carey Ave.

Nevada Center Institute staff will conduct screenings.

Women who are between the ages of 40 and 64 are especially being encouraged to undergo a mammogram.

According to the American Cancer Society, women 40 and older should undergo yearly mammograms.

Women 65 and older qualify for Medicare, which pays for mammograms. Weekly hopes to reach those women who may have no other way of receiving the screenings.

Weekly is using $2,500 from his campaign funds to pay for the examinations.
