White Pine County might hire manager

RENO -- White Pine County could soon have its first county manager.

The White Pine County Board of Commissioners voted Wednesday to form a committee that will look at whether White Pine should overhaul its county management.

The county has set aside $120,000 for salary and benefits to hire a manager since 2009, according to the Ely Times.

Commission Chairman John Lampros has endorsed the idea, saying it would help White Pine leaders run the local government more like a business.

The state oversaw White Pine's financial decisions for four years starting in 2005 after the county ran out of cash.
