Whopper Virgins goes viral

Leave it to a hamburger maker to find the only people on the planet who
have never eaten a burger. That's what the marketing folks at Burger King
did.

WhopperVirgins.com,
a short online documentary resulting from the
restaurant representatives’ quest, shows indigenous Greenlanders,
Thailanders and Romanians learning how to hold and eat their first
hamburgers. It was entertaining to see them lifting the top buns to peek at
pickles and onions. It was also amazing to see the portable Burger King
broiler
arriving by dog sled and to see the troubles the restaurant
company’s people had connecting propane tanks to the broilers in various
locales.

Is wasn’t surprising to see the taste test and head-to-head (or is that
burger-to-burger?) comparison between the Whopper and Big Mac. It was
confusing, though, to see that the taste testers were brought to locations
within 15-minute drives of each restaurant to preserve the qualities of a
"fresh" burger, given than most of the subjects seemed to live hours away
from what most folks would consider civilization.

Yes, there were far more folks choosing the Whopper than choosing the Big
Mac or expressing no preference. I'm guessing they had no clue they could
"hold the pickle" or the lettuce, had they asked. That's from an ad
campaign
of long ago.

A story in Advertising Age
said the film has been played more than 130,000 times, with 80 percent of
the plays coming from viral pass-alongs. There are also more than 450
comments on the film.

It's worth a look. Then, I’d suggest heading out for a burger. You'll be
hungry after watching the virgins dig in.
