Woman dies in car accident
August 9, 2009 - 9:00 pm
A woman was killed Saturday morning when her Toyota sedan went off state Route 165 near the small town of Nelson, about 40 miles southeast of Las Vegas.
Sgt. Kevin Honea, spokesman for the Nevada Highway Patrol, said troopers received the call just before 8 a.m. Saturday, but it is unclear when the accident occurred. The road is not heavily traveled, Honea said.
The accident was discovered by a bicyclist who had to ride back to Nelson to call 911, Honea said. The only occupant of the vehicle was the 23-year-old woman who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Honea said the woman was on her way back to Nelson from Las Vegas when her car drifted off the road and into a ravine about seven miles southeast of U.S. Highway 95. The woman was not wearing a seat belt, Honea said.
