Woman fatally shot in murder-suicide attempt identified

The 38-year-old woman found fatally shot in an apparent murder-suicide attempt Saturday night was identified by the Clark County coroner’s office as Maria Herrera.

North Las Vegas police responded to a home on the 4900 block of Rancho Domingo Court, near Camino Al Norte and Lone Mountain Road around 4:45 p.m. regarding a domestic dispute.

Officers forced their way inside the home when they heard gunshots. They found Herrera dead and a 46-year-old Cibolo, Texas man in critical condition from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The woman died of a multiple gunshot wounds and her death was ruled a homicide.

Police said Herrera was assaulted by the man in front of the house when she returned home. When she was fatally shot in unknown.

The gunman, who was not identified by police, was taken to University Medical Center.
