Woman has minor injuries after train strikes car

An unidentified woman parked her car on railroad tracks and was struck by a train early Friday but escaped with minor injuries.

Police received a call about 2:45 a.m. saying a woman was despondent. When police arrived at her apartment in the southeast valley, she had left.

The woman later called police from a railway in Apex, north of Las Vegas. She said her car was stuck on the tracks and threatened to kill herself if police approached her, said Marcus Martin, a Metropolitan Police Department spokesman.

Police asked Union Pacific officials to stop the trains, Martin said. One train that already was rolling hit the woman's car.

She was transported to University Medical Center's trauma unit with nonlife-threatening injuries.
