A hit-and-run driver left a pedestrian in critical condition Monday night near downtown Las Vegas, police said.

Police said a passing motorist found the unidentified woman about 7:45 p.m. lying in the northbound lanes of Fremont Street, south of Oakey Boulevard.

The woman, who had severe facial trauma and was unresponsive, was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with critical injuries.

A broken driver's side mirror housing and other debris was lying in the roadway near the woman. Police suspect a large truck or SUV hit her.
