Woman killed after man runs stoplight

A 24-year-old Las Vegas woman was killed early Sunday when a man in a truck ran a stoplight and struck her vehicle, according to a Las Vegas Metropolitan police release.

Police said the woman was making a legal left-hand turn onto Rainbow Boulevard from Flamingo Road when her Pontiac Sunfire was struck broadside by Kevin Miranda’s 2008 Dodge Ram.

Miranda, 18, was arrested and charged with two felony counts of DUI after failing a sobriety test, police said.

The driver of the Pontiac was transported to University Medical Center and pronounced dead shortly after arrival, police said. Her name is being withheld pending notification of family.

A 16-year-old female passenger in Miranda’s truck was also transported to University Medical Center. She was treated and released, police said.

Police said this was the 82nd fatal traffic accident in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
