Woman sentenced to prison in 2008 attack
A 22-year-old Las Vegas woman convicted of involuntary manslaughter for driving a car into a woman she argued with at a gas station in 2008 was sentenced to 19 months to four years in prison Thursday.
Deputy public defender Norm Reed, attorney for Ankina Myles, said his client is eligible for immediate release because of credit for time already served and time off for good behavior.
Prosecutors originally charged Myles with murder in Shantel Stewart's death, but a jury in May convicted her of the lesser charge.
Authorities said Myles and Stewart were arguing over a boyfriend during the March 2008 incident, which occurred at the corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Alexander Road.
Defense attorneys described the boyfriend as a pimp.
Stewart was in a "vegetative state" for months after she was struck. She died of her injuries in August 2008.
Stewart's mother and sister spoke during Thursday's sentencing hearing before Judge Valorie Vega. The judge gave Myles the maximum sentence allowed.
