A wrong turn during a Thanksgiving trip left a 73-year-old Sparks woman stranded in the Mojave Desert for seven days, officials said.

Joan Arleen Scolari was reported missing by her family on Nov. 24 after they hadn't heard from her for three days.

She had flown into McCarran International Airport and rented a car with plans to drive from Las Vegas to Lake Havasu, Ariz., according to a release from the Sparks Police Department.

While doing just that, she took a wrong turn and wound up in the California desert, police Sgt. Charles Alt Wednesday.

It wasn't until Nov. 30 that Scolari was discovered in what Alt described as "wilderness."

Scolari wasn't clear about how she was found, but said that the San Bernadino County Sheriff's Department responded. Calls to them were not immediately returned.
