Work to begin at college

Construction will begin next week on Nevada State College's first building, after a lawsuit delaying its construction was dismissed Monday in District Court.

District Court Judge Stewart Bell threw out the lawsuit against the Public Works Board filed by Rafael Construction Co., one of the bidders for NSC's Academic and Student Services building.

The lawsuit claimed that the Public Works Board didn't meet state law by requiring two company specifications for the building's cabinets, and a temporary injunction was granted two weeks ago.

Attorney Leon Mead, who represented Rafael Construction, said the company wouldn't appeal the decision, although he said he felt the Nevada Supreme Court would have reversed Bell.

Construction was scheduled to begin on the college's first building, near Nevada State Drive and U.S. Highway 95, on April 9.

Construction now will begin Monday.
