Wrong-way driver hits car, kills man on Highway 95

A driver going the wrong way on U.S. Highway 95 on Thursday morning struck a vehicle and killed a 34-year-old man, a Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The accident happened about 1:15 a.m.

The victim, who was not identified, was driving a Toyota Celica and was headed north between the Las Vegas Beltway and Durango Drive, said state Trooper Kevin Honea.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man driving a Chevrolet Monte Carlo was southbound on northbound U.S. 95.

Honea said the front left side of the Monte Carlo struck the front left side of the Celica.

The man driving the Celica died at the scene.

The Las Vegas man driving the Monte Carlo was taken to the University Medical Center. His identity also was not released.

Honea said it was not known why the man driving the Monte Carlo was traveling the wrong way.

He said the man had not yet been given any citations.

"Any and all charges will be pending the outcome of the investigation," Honea said.
