Yoga studios make it convenient for area residents

Not too long ago, you would take a yoga class at your gym or a studio in a strip mall. But now you can have a Zen experience while perusing your favorite art gallery or while grocery shopping.
A creative environment and a strong sense of community are key elements of downtown's two yoga studios, Blue Sky Yoga inside the Arts Factory and Vegas Zen Yoga inside Emergency Arts. Both are located within artistic creative collectives, surrounded and inspired by art and artists. Blue Sky Yoga rents sections of its walls to artists as mini-gallery space, creating a vibrant atmosphere for yoga students and helping offset hard costs.
Between the two studios, there are classes offered seven days per week.
Blue Sky Yoga at the Arts Factory, located at 107 E. Charleston Blvd., offers classes to everyone, regardless of ability to pay. Donations are welcome and encouraged from those who are financially able. For a full schedule and more information, visit www.blueskyyogalv.com or call 592-1396.
Vegas Zen Yoga opened March 4 on the second floor of Emergency Arts at 520 Fremont St. Owners David Oliphant and James Wong offer flexibility education and training for young and old at any fitness level and hope to offer Las Vegas residents respite from the stress of everyday life.
For a full schedule of Vegas Zen classes, visit www.emergencyartslv.com/events or for more information, emailjames@studio222lasvegas.com or call 769-2991.
Barefoot Sanctuary recently opened a yoga studio inside the Whole Foods Market in Summerlin, after finding success with its studio at the Whole Foods at Town Square. Barefoot Sanctuary offers yoga, belly dance, handstands, Acrofit and more with two locations. It's the best place to combine a yoga class or exercise routine with a healthy snack from the Whole Foods vegan food bar or weekly shopping trip.
Its workshops feature guest instructors from diverse disciplines -- from healing to acrobatics to drumming and chanting. All levels of practitioners are welcome to Barefoot Sanctuary. For a full schedules of classes at either location, visit www.barefootsancturary.com. or call 543-1018.
