‘You’ve got mail’ and it may destroy you
I don’t know if you’ve been following the stories about the Chinese hackers breaking into computers from the Pentagon to Barack Obama’s campaign.
It is interesting to note that one of the major fronts in the next war will be fought in cyberspace. Geek vs. geek. Code writer vs. code writer. Trying to steal information or shutdown crucial defense software.
Investor’s Business Daily had an interesting editorial on this topic today. It discusses not only the warfare aspect of Chinese snooping but also rampant theft of intellectual property — everything from biotech to weapons designs.
I could not resist sharing the ending of the editorial with you even though it might be a bit of a spoiler for those of you who click through to it:
“Unless we are prepared, our next Pearl Harbor may not begin with an ominous ‘Tora, Tora, Tora’ but with the innocent-sounding ‘You've got mail.’”
