Democrats and a renewable energy strategy
July 25, 2008 - 9:00 pm
To the editor:
Your Monday editorial, "Earth to Al," jogged my memory. I saw a report on TV the other night that helped me decode the Reid/Pelosi strategy of not doing anything until we are in charge next January with a veto-proof Congress. Remember that other than talking about renewable energy they have offered no strategy or plan to make it happen.
Out of the woodwork comes Al Gore with a $3 trillion plan to have us on 100 percent wind and solar in 10 years. I can now see him as Obama's Energy Czar taxing and spending the country into bankruptcy while making all the environmental extremists and their congressional backers unbelievably rich.
If I were a cartoonist I would have Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Al Gore standing on the far left side of Mr. Gore's front lawn huffing and puffing on a wind turbine trying to equalize the unreal energy consumption of his home.
Wonderful vision, eh?

Real Jesse
To the editor:
Just like in "The Wizard Of Oz," The Rev. Jesse Jackson's recent unscripted remarks about Barack Obama and the "N" word gaffe have allowed us to see behind the curtain, revealing the real Jesse. There we see a jealous, fading self promoter who is attempting to remain relevant even as his star is falling as fast as Mr. Obama's is rising.
Here we have a man who feels that he should be the No. 1 black spokesman in the Democratic Party and elsewhere. "Who is this silver tongued punk with the big grin, who came out of nowhere, tat everyone is so excited about? Where is his resume? How many protest marches has he led? What has he ever done that would justify his dislodging me from my leadership position in the black community?"

Theater review
To the editor:
I am taken aback by Anthony Del Vale's recent "review" of "Will Rogers Follies" now on stage at the Summerlin Library Theater.
As a paid professional reviewer my standard outline includes a look at the actors, scenery, costumes, music, direction and the feel of the show. Mr. Del Valle not only missed these points but also neglected to mention the charming leading lady, Heidi Jackson, and the marvelous "Rogers Kids" who stole the hearts of the audience. Heidi's portrayal of Betty Blake as Will Rogers wife left the audience enraptured and of course the kids were great.
Mr. Del Valle also misses the spirit of community theater when he calls the chorus "not professional." Community theater by definition is the work of volunteers from all walks of life who sacrifice work and family time to bring us these kinds of shows. No, Mr. Del Valle, these are not paid thespians but local people performing for the love of the art.
I must also mention his concurrent negative and short sighted review of "1776." This so called "review" has also done a disservice to the community, stealing the joy of theater from the participants and your readers as well.
My review would state: "Will Rogers Follies" is a wonderful production, with amazing singing, dancing, and acting. Michael Brown, Heidi Jackson, Gary Colombo and B. Noelle, along with the whole ensemble are a cast worth seeing. My appreciation for the show was confirmed by a standing ovation on opening night. In my professional opinion this production scores an A+. It was not only charming but a marvelous tribute to the great Will Rogers himself, who "never met a man he didn't like."

Time to surrender
To the editor:
Since most Americans are no longer interested in fighting for our freedoms, why not just surrender to those who wish us harm?
That would solve many problems:
1) They have all the oil money and could immediately retire our national debt.
2) They would stop killing us.
3) We could shred our Constitution as we no longer go by it anyway.
4) We could dispense with both houses of Congress saving billions of dollars (they don't do anything anyway).
5) Our schools would no longer be overcrowded, as girls are not allowed to attend.
6) The fashion industry would undergo major revisions as the women will conform to Sharia law.
I could go on and on, but why do I have to do all the heavy lifting?
That's what we elect presidents to do, isn't it?
