Getting the smut peddlers off the Strip

To the editor:
I have a very simple solution to the problem of sexually oriented leaflets being passed out on the Strip.
The businesses on the Strip should purchase the sidewalks from the county and prohibit this type of activity on their own private property. The purchase could be a nominal fee, say $1 a year.
These smut peddlers are the worst thing about Las Vegas. I've traveled all over the world, and there is no other city where this type of activity occurs.

Oil drilling
To the editor:
So Barack Obama throws a bone to the Republicans by proposing to open offshore drilling off the Atlantic Coast and expanding it in the Gulf of Mexico. But the big oil deposits lie off the West Coast, in Alaska and in Midwestern shale. The president's plan is a sham.
We are importing almost 5 billion barrels of oil a year, and shipping close to $400 billion a year to other countries for it. If our leaders put politics aside, we could be energy independent and give our economy a boost. We're talking millions of jobs involved in producing our oil resources.
The environmentalists can pursue changing out coal for nuclear and other sources, but the country's transportation sector will always run mostly on oil. Buying it from others makes no sense.
