Jesus would be far above partisan politics

To the editor:

I was amused at Trish Roberts's implication (July 16 letter) that Jesus is a Democrat.

Democrats kill unborn children through abortion. Democrats dominate the ACLU, which at every opportunity initiates lawsuits to take Jesus out of our lives.

Jesus is charity -- not theft in the form of taxes.

Jesus would take personal responsibility, not take handouts to stay home because the available jobs don't pay as much as government programs. Jesus would help his neighbors, instead of expecting someone else to do it.

Our Social Security system is broke because godless politicians have been raiding those funds for years; new ideas to save a failed system shouldn't be ignored.

Corporate greed? Corporations are owned by ordinary people who put their savings into stock hoping for an appreciation in their investment. It's one form of investment that politicians can't pilfer, except of course when you sell your appreciated stock -- they steal part of your return in the form of taxes.

Greedy corporations supply the private-sector jobs that feed America. Greedy corporations pay taxes to fund unemployment benefits.

Jesus is not a Democrat or Republican. He's way, way above that.

Pay games

To the editor:

In his July 17 letter ("Up and up") Peter Haslehurst references an article that appeared in the July 4 Review-Journal headlined, "Public employees' pay keeps rising." He tries to shift focus away from the fact that private employee pay has not kept pace by citing things like fuel, taxes, attorney fees, etc. that have all gone up.

But sadly, private sector pay has not.

In fact the subhead of the article read "Private sector salaries lag behind governments'" -- and that was the main focus of the article.
