LETTER: Wetlands Park trashed by partiers

To the editor:
Clark County has invested millions of dollars in the development of Clark County Wetlands Park. Did it not occur to county officials to include in the budget ample funds for the maintenance and upkeep of the park? Over the past few years, I have watched the once pristine parking area at the south end of Hollywood Boulevard become trashed by the younger generation.
Since the area is not policed on a nightly basis, youngsters have free reign to party as they please. There are remnants of bonfires, broken fence posts and graffiti. There is so much broken glass from beer bottles that it’s a challenge to even get to the trail head.
I don’t know which county commissioner represents this area, but whoever it is needs to get a first-hand look at the destruction and implement a plan to fix it. I’m sure there are enough juvenile offenders available to have a work detail there on a weekly basis. After all, it’s their generation causing the problem.
But what really needs to happen is for law enforcement to get involved so the damage doesn’t occur in the first place. Why invest so much time and money if nothing is done to protect the investment? What a waste, once again, of taxpayer dollars.
