Make lawmakers live with what they create

To the editor:

Does anyone else remember the phrase, "What's good for the goose is good for the gander"?

I've just e-mailed Sens. John Ensign and Harry Reid and Rep. Dina Titus about the proposed health care legislation.

I've asked each of them to take a pledge to support members of Congress giving up their health care plan and enrolling in whatever it is they create in the new legislation.

To me, their response will tell a lot about what they think of what they create. Are they a privileged class or just one of us?

What do you think? Will I get anything other than a form letter telling me how much they care?

Single payer

To the editor:

A single-payer system should be our choice when it comes to health care.

My friends from Canada say they are delighted with their system. They need only appear at the doctor's office, and no questions are asked.

Only elective surgery requires a wait, and those who need emergency surgery get proper care.

I am disgusted with the lies and misinformation currently bombarding our citizens.

Clunker cash

To the editor:

Most restaurant owners will tell you that once couponing starts, the customer won't come in without one. The result is bigger crowds but lower profits, bigger losses.

The "cash for clunkers" program will train auto owners to hold onto that car for an extra year or two to gain the government bounty.

The result will be one group of taxpayers subsidizing another while car sales become more stagnant, as we now give many owners an incentive to wait.

Evil plot

To the editor:

Knight Allen's July 31 letter, "The cost of going green," shows how principled and altruistic he is. What he alludes to is how Sen. Harry Reid and Rep. Dina Titus want to create an energy famine.

Likewise, President Obama's plan is to create a Ukrainian Holodomor-type of energy famine in America.

America, beware of these politicians who are hell-bent on destroying us all.
