Municipal elections are important — so vote

To the editor:

Vote to save Boulder City. The low voter turnout for the Boulder City municipal primary election was very disappointing. Less than 10 percent of registered voters bothered to vote.

Aren't they aware that the City Council spends their money, makes rules, regulations, laws and more that impact their lives?

Boulder City has a low-growth ordinance that keeps growth at an affordable level. If the new council dispenses with that, growth will become unaffordably expensive because the city must provide the infrastructure. Water, sewers, power lines, streets and roads, maintenance of same, signs, street lights and street cleaning. All hugely expensive.

The complexion of our town will be changed forever. Is this what we want for Boulder City? I love our quaint bedroom community the way it is now. This town is unique. We get away from the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas. We enjoy parks, recreation, cultural activities, sports and much more here.

The preservation of Boulder City is in the hands of the voters. Please vote in the upcoming City Council election and save a way of life that is under siege.

Officer death

To the editor:

I need to ask some questions about the article in the May 10 Review-Journal, "Driver may face charges in officer's death in collision."

Calvin Darling was under the legal limit for alcohol, and no drugs were found.

My questions: Was officer James Manor also tested for alcohol and drugs? Was he wearing his seat belt? How often do police officers get checked for drugs or alcohol?

My sincere condolences go to the family of officer Manor. But there should be no difference in how a civilian or a police officer is treated during the investigation of such a tragedy.
